A massive inferno tore through a petrol station along Kiambu Road late Wednesday night, leaving a trail of destruction and heavy financial losses as emergency teams raced to contain the rapidly spreading blaze.

The fire broke out at Fourways Petrol Station on the night of April 1 at around 10:15pm, quickly escalating and engulfing large sections of the facility as well as nearby property.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi directed all available county emergency response units to rush to the scene, with at least three fire engines deployed in efforts to bring the situation under control.

Eyewitnesses suggested the fire may have ignited during the offloading of fuel from a tanker, although authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause.

Emergency responders battled the flames through the night as the fire posed a serious risk to surrounding infrastructure and motorists along the busy Kiambu Road.

Several vehicles parked near the station were completely destroyed, with reports indicating that at least five cars were reduced to burnt shells.

A nearby Pizza Inn outlet was also consumed by the blaze, underscoring the scale of damage caused by the incident.
