Tensions are emerging within Kenya’s broad-based political arrangement, with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) signalling plans to push for the removal of Hassan Omar as Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over alleged disrespect and insubordination.

Speaking during an ODM youth event, Kisii Governor Simba Arati said the party was increasingly dissatisfied with Omar’s conduct, accusing him of undermining ODM’s role within the current political formation.

According to Arati, cooperation between the two parties has become strained, warning that Omar risks removal if his approach does not change.

“Give us respect. We are the majority and we will have to be allowed to move this country forward. Those who are attempting to gang against us will be rendered powerless soon,” Arati stated.

He further drew parallels with the ouster of Edwin Sifuna from a leadership position, arguing that similar disciplinary action could be replicated within UDA if necessary.

Arati emphasised that ODM was not demanding special treatment but insisted on mutual respect within the working arrangement, maintaining that the party’s influence and numbers must be recognised in ongoing political engagements.
