Godfrey Osotsi, the Vihiga Senator and former ODM deputy party leader, was attacked and seriously injured in Kisumu on Wednesday, prompting an urgent airlift to Nairobi for medical attention, confirmed Edwin Sifuna.
According to Sifuna, Osotsi was assaulted while receiving a haircut in the Acacia area. “I have spoken to Senator Osotsi’s team and confirmed that he was viciously attacked and injured in Kisumu earlier today when he went to get a haircut,” Sifuna said, adding that the injuries were severe enough to prevent him from returning to Nairobi by road.
The Senator’s office stated that #Osotsi had initially visited the Acacia area for routine grooming before proceeding to Java Restaurant, where he spent about thirty minutes interacting with a friend and members of the public. It was during this period that a group of gun-wielding individuals confronted him, questioning his political positions and physically assaulting him.
Sifuna condemned the attack and called on law enforcement to act swiftly. “The Senator is being airlifted to Nairobi as we speak. Whilst we wait for further details, I strongly condemn this attack and ask the Police for immediate action on those responsible,” he said.
Authorities have yet to release full details of Osotsi’s condition, but the incident has sparked concern over the safety of public officials and heightened calls for urgent investigation.
