Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has said recent disciplinary moves within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) targeting Secretary General Edwin Sifuna may have backfired, instead strengthening his political standing.

Speaking amid growing debate within the party, Odhiambo argued that attempts to censure Sifuna have only elevated his profile both internally and among ODM supporters. According to her, the controversy has given the Nairobi Senator wider visibility and reinforced his influence within party ranks.

She noted that political pressure often creates unintended consequences, especially when directed at leaders who already enjoy grassroots support. “In trying to contain him, the party may have ended up amplifying his voice,” Odhiambo observed, adding that Sifuna appears to have gained sympathy and backing from sections of the party base.

Sifuna has recently been at the center of internal disagreements, with some party members questioning his stance on key issues and leadership approach. However, Odhiambo maintained that such differences should be handled through dialogue rather than actions that could be perceived as punitive.

The legislator further warned that internal wrangles risk weakening party unity if not addressed carefully. She urged ODM leaders to focus on strengthening cohesion and managing dissent constructively.

Her remarks come at a time when ODM is navigating shifting political dynamics, with analysts suggesting that how the party handles internal disputes could shape its future stability. As the situation unfolds, Sifuna’s growing visibility may position him as an even more influential figure within the party.
