Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has opened up about the events that led to the shooting of DJ Evolve, saying it was never his intention to harm him.

Speaking on Nation TV’s Trend programme on Monday morning, the youthful legislator revealed for the first time that the incident was triggered after DJ Evolve allegedly claimed the firearm he had was fake.

“We had never fought over anything. Look at the video, there was no altercation of any kind. Evolve had just claimed I had a fake machine, and that is how I found myself in the temptation to prove him wrong,” said Owino.

The lawmaker admitted that, like any other person, he is capable of making mistakes, describing the shooting as one of the biggest lessons of his life.

While saying he took full responsibility for the incident, Owino noted that the experience transformed him personally, adding that he has not consumed drugs or alcohol since 2020.

“I used to take anything capable of making anyone high. This shooting was therefore meant to change my life. Since 2020 to date, I have never taken drugs. Six years down the line now, it changed both of us because DJ Evolve also stopped alcohol,” he stated.

Owino further said DJ Evolve forgave him long ago and that the two families are now on good terms.

On the financial burden following the incident, the MP disclosed that he had to secure loans from banks and SACCOs to settle DJ Evolve’s medical expenses, which he said amounted to KSh28 million.
