Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Bare Sahara Ahmed over remarks made in a viral video circulating on social media, which authorities say were inciteful and posed a risk to national cohesion.
The arrest follows a swift review of the footage and ongoing investigations aimed at establishing the context and intent of the statements. According to the DCI, the suspect is currently in lawful custody and is being processed ahead of arraignment in court.
In a statement, the agency emphasized that while freedom of expression is protected under the Constitution, it must be exercised responsibly and within the limits of the law. Authorities warned that any utterances likely to incite division, hatred, or threaten peaceful coexistence will be dealt with firmly.
“The arrest follows a swift and thorough review of the video, alongside ongoing investigations to establish the full context and intent of the statements made. The suspect is currently in lawful custody and is being processed pending arraignment in court”.
The DCI also called on members of the public to remain calm and avoid sharing inflammatory content that could escalate tensions. Officials reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and unity, especially in the wake of sensitive or provocative material circulating online.
