Former Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshoomo has formally joined the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking another high-profile political defection as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Leshoomo was welcomed into the party by Kithure Kindiki during a political gathering in Samburu County on Saturday, August 1. She crossed over alongside 10 other leaders previously associated with opposition parties.
Addressing supporters, #Leshoomo said her decision to quit the Jubilee Party stemmed from the departure of former President Uhuru Kenyatta from the party’s leadership.
She explained that her loyalty had always been to Uhuru and that once he relinquished control of Jubilee, she no longer saw a reason to remain in the party.
“I was in Jubilee because of Uhuru Kenyatta. When Uhuru gave out Jubilee, I decided to leave. Let us go back to the government,” Leshoomo said.
Among the other leaders who defected to UDA were former Samburu North MP Alois Lentoimanga, Samburu Senate aspirant Lkitonga Lengolos, Suguta Ward MCA James Leleruk, Janet Lavasanti and former Samburu County Assembly Deputy Speaker Adamson Lanyasunya.
Kindiki hailed the new entrants, describing their move as a sign of increasing confidence in President William Ruto’s administration.
“Let us welcome Leshoomo to UDA and into Ruto’s government. Let us also welcome our former Governor Moses Lenolkulal to UDA. I want to take this opportunity to welcome you all to UDA,” Kindiki said.
The latest political shift comes barely two days after Leshoomo officially announced her resignation from the Jubilee Party and relinquished her role as Chairperson of the party’s National Women’s League.
In a resignation letter dated July 27, 2026, she said her exit was voluntary and made in accordance with the Constitution and the Political Parties Act.
“I hereby resign from the Jubilee Party and, consequently, from my position as Chairperson of the National Women’s League, with immediate effect,” part of the letter read.
She further affirmed that her decision had been made freely, without coercion or undue influence, and requested the party to formally acknowledge receipt of her resignation as required by law.
Leshoomo’s move adds to the growing list of politicians switching political camps ahead of the next General Election, with UDA continuing its efforts to strengthen its presence in Samburu County and other parts of the country.
