Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) physiotherapy graduates are fast becoming highly sought-after professionals in Germany, reflecting the growing international demand for skilled rehabilitation specialists.

KMTC Chief Executive Officer Kelly Oluoch revealed that physiotherapy graduates have claimed the largest share of recent healthcare job placements in Germany, facilitated through recruitment partnerships with the African Business Community (ABC).

On Tuesday, April 7, Oluoch confirmed that at least 84 physiotherapy graduates have already secured positions in Germany during the ongoing recruitment cycle. Speaking to KMTC learners alongside a visiting German delegation, he noted that this absorption rate surpasses that of other local universities.

“This performance places KMTC ahead of institutions like Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Mount Kenya University, and Masinde Muliro University, whose graduates are also competing for similar opportunities abroad,” Oluoch said.

The CEO added that KMTC is preparing an additional 159 physiotherapy graduates for placement in Germany in the coming months. “These are graduates we expect to place as soon as they are ready,” he noted.

In March, the college hosted an ABC delegation to explore deeper collaboration on preparing students for overseas healthcare careers. The partnership focuses on equipping trainees with internationally aligned competencies, including German language training and job placement support to facilitate a smooth transition into foreign healthcare systems.

While KMTC graduates have previously secured jobs in the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States, Germany has become a key target market due to its ageing population and rising demand for rehabilitation services. The World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted a global shortage of rehabilitation professionals, particularly in countries with older populations.
