A wave of concern has gripped Kenya’s legal fraternity following the brutal killing of advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa, with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) demanding immediate and credible investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
LSK President Charles Kanjama said the society received news of Imbukwa’s death with profound shock, terming it a devastating loss. He extended condolences to the advocate’s family, friends, and colleagues, noting that the violent nature of the incident has deeply unsettled members of the bar. According to LSK, Imbukwa was allegedly assaulted and tortured before being killed, raising alarm over the safety of legal practitioners.
Kanjama urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service (NPS) to conduct swift, thorough, and transparent investigations. He appealed to the public to share any information, assuring witnesses of their safety and anonymity. He further warned that any individuals found culpable, including potential state actors, must be held fully accountable.
The LSK also pledged legal support to Imbukwa’s family throughout the investigative and judicial process, insisting that justice is non-negotiable. The killing adds to growing concern over attacks targeting lawyers, coming months after the fatal shooting of Mathew Kyalo Mbobu along Magadi Road in September 2025, a case that similarly raised questions about security and accountability.
