Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has publicly expressed regret over his support for President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election, in a candid interview on Citizen TV hosted by Jeff Koinange.
Speaking during the interview, Nyoro acknowledged that backing Ruto was a personal misjudgment, describing it as both a “failure” and a “regret.” He said Kenyans are not asking for new policies or promises, but rather a return to the previous tax and levy structure. According to him, the expectations placed on the current administration were rooted in a belief that it would champion ordinary citizens, particularly those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
“It is a disappointing day for Kenyans,” #Nyoro stated, adding that the “hustler” narrative that defined Ruto’s campaign now feels misleading. He noted that many citizens believed they were supporting a leader who understood their struggles, including informal workers such as #bodaboda riders.
Nyoro also sharply criticized the government-to-government (G-to-G) fuel importation deal, alleging that it is being misused for personal gain by individuals in power. He argued that while the arrangement is presented as a partnership with foreign governments like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the Kenyan side does not genuinely represent public interest.
“The ‘G’ in Kenya does not represent any government,” he said, describing the deal as a conduit for political patronage and exploitation in the oil sector.
He further claimed that as fuel prices continue to rise, burdening ordinary Kenyans, some leaders are profiting heavily. Nyoro painted a stark picture of a leadership class allegedly benefiting from the crisis, even as citizens struggle with the cost of living, calling the situation “ridiculous” and “very embarrassing.”
