The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially confirmed Oburu Odinga as its party leader, following five months in an acting capacity. His election was ratified during a Special Delegates Conference on Friday, March 27, at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, where party members expressed full confidence in his leadership.

“Now that we have a proposer and a seconder, let me ask the question. As many of that opinion say ‘Aye’ and as many of the contrary opinion say ‘No,’ the Ayes have it. Senator Oburu Odinga is the party leader of ODM,” declared Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.

Oburu Odinga had been managing party operations on an interim basis, maintaining unity amid internal transitions. The special delegates conference provided a platform for members from across the country to deliberate on ODM’s leadership and strategic direction.

Alongside Oburu’s confirmation, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir and Kisii Governor Simba Arati were approved as deputy party leaders. However, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was not ratified after failing to secure the required proposer and seconder, a development linked to his alignment with a breakaway faction led by Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and Siaya Governor James Orengo.

The conference also confirmed Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga as ODM’s National Chairperson, with Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Turkana South MP John Ariko Namoit as her deputies.

The event marked a decisive moment for ODM, reaffirming Oburu Odinga’s leadership and establishing a renewed party structure as it prepares to navigate Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
