President William Ruto on Tuesday assented to the Supplementary Appropriations Bill, 2026, at State House Nairobi, officially increasing total government expenditure by KSh 393 billion i.e from KSh 4.3 trillion to KSh 4.69 trillion.

According to the President, the Act aligns the national budget to address urgent and emerging priorities, including critical security operations, disaster response, and strategic infrastructure projects across the country.

The largest allocation, KSh 60 billion, is dedicated to security, including KSh 2 billion set aside for compensation of victims affected by recent protests. The education sector follows closely with KSh 45.28 billion, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to education reforms and the policy of universal schooling.

The Affordable Housing Programme has received KSh 25 billion, while agriculture has been allocated nearly KSh18 billion, with KSh 10 billion specifically earmarked for the subsidised fertiliser programme.

Health sector funding includes KSh4 billion to clear pending bills under the defunct National Health Insurance Fund, KSh  5.4 billion for the doctors internship programme, KSh 2.5 billion for Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, KSh2.6 billion for vaccines, and KSh 675 million to upgrade Level 4 hospitals nationwide.

Additionally, the Blue Economy and Fisheries Department has been allocated KSh 350 million to organise the Oceanic Conference in Mombasa and Kilifi in June 2026, a move expected to strengthen Kenya’s role in marine conservation and promote sustainable fisheries.

President Ruto emphasised that the supplementary budget is designed to respond quickly to national needs while supporting strategic investments for long-term growth.
