DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at running for the presidency saying he is the most fit for the heavy task to displace President William Ruto from office.

Speaking during a church function on Sunday May 3rd, Gachagua said he believes in his current form and popularity to run down William Ruto’s administration in 2027 general elections.

He went on to state that, if given that opportunity by his colleagues in the United Opposition, he will not let down his supporters who expect nothing but the presidency delivered in first round.

He, however, added that, should someone else become favourite in the opposition and be picked to carry their flag, he will be supporting him or her fully.

“As an opposition, we will decide in the near future who becomes what. This isn’t the right time to start this discussion. It’s too early. My resolve to vie for the presidency is not final. In this case, each one of us is preparing and whoever will be decided on I will fully support,” he added.

The former Deputy President noted that his plan to run will not, in any way, undermine their commitment to remain together in 2027.

He took the opportunity to challenge his colleagues to move away from their comfort zone and go out to seek support to become strong, individually.

And after this is when they will pull together on a table and debate on who will run for the presidency and who can deputize him or her.
