A Kenyan-American based in the United States has died in a tragic motorcycle accident, just three years after losing his parents in a shocking and unresolved double murder in Nyamira County.

Joseph Nyagechi Morema, 29, died on April 21 following a crash in Eagan, Minnesota. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident occurred at about 9:35 p.m. while he was riding a Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Interstate 35E, near Highway 77. Preliminary findings indicate that the bike veered into gravel and dirt, causing him to lose control before being thrown off. He died at the scene, and authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor.

Morema, who lived in Burnsville, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. And death comes nearly three years after the brutal killing of his parents, Edward Morema Nyagechi, 63, and Grace Mong’ina Morema, 60. The couple was murdered in their home in Nyamakoroto village, Nyamira County, on March 21, 2023, while visiting from the U.S.

They were found bound inside their house, with clear signs of a violent attack that shocked both the local community and Kenyans abroad.

The killings sparked widespread outrage and prompted appeals for justice from family members, including Morema, to both Kenyan authorities and the U.S. government.

Despite investigations and questioning of several persons of interest, the motive behind the murders remains unclear, leaving the family’s quest for closure unresolved.
